Lakeside Visitor October 2009

Rebeca and I are absolutely thrilled to be at Lakeside Christian Church! Between the two of us–Rebeca from Romania and me a Texan–we have been all over the world and God has brought us to Southern California to work with the youth group and the entire church body (if there’s enough interest in the long, drawn-out story I’ll see if I can oblige the little details). From what I hear LCC is now the boastin’est church in Southern California, blessed with TWO Texas boys on staff!
Just so you know a little about the new guy, I have had a passion for youth my whole life and have enjoyed working with all age groups since I grew up and left the nest. I grew up in the church, spent some time doing life my way, and realized that no fuller life can be found than life in Christ and with the support group of His bride. That’s really what gave me a passion for working with youth in early college because I know, first hand, the powerful draw of life on your own. Our culture so powerfully plays up the idea of individuality that the blessing and growth found in community can be all but lost.
I look forward to working with the youth here at LCC, teaching from my own pain and growth, and guiding them toward a truly fulfilling life of relationship with God AND each other. Everything else I leave up to the Holy Spirit, so I would greatly appreciate your prayers that God would do what He will in, for, and through this youth program. I’m a team player and know that I can do very little here without the support of parents and other adults (and the youth themselves) who want to invest in the lives of the youth.
After all that you still may be wondering something about who this guy who’s going to be leading the youth program really is. The bullet points are that I enjoy rock climbing, hiking, spending time with my wife and friends, cooking & eating, watching movies, writing, reading, playing sports (especially soccer and football) when the opportunities arise, all forms of skiing, and a couple things I’m not going to let out just yet… how’s that for a cliffhanger? Oh yes, I also enjoy surprises… perhaps too much, and much to Rebeca’s chagrin. That’s all I’ve got LCC and family, so if you want more you might just have to wait a bit. Pray for the youth. Pray for me. Pray for this entire church of people. And more importantly, have an amazing month of growth in your relationships with others and with God… hm, I think Jesus said something about that one time.
